Light Pollution: Living in the Light

Well, there's two types of people in the world and there's: People who love the day and people who love the night (kind of like night owls). Now for the day people, this particular post may be fine with them but, I can't say the same for the night owls.

Imagine living in a city so bright that you can't even tell its night time? Bright enough to be seen by a satellite? Sounds insane right? Not really, it turns out there's over 45 different cities who are living just like that.

Personally, I don't like the idea of living in a city so bright because then I'd get confused with night and day at times. I feel as if it would be more difficult to live in a city like that because you'd never get the lights to stop peering through your window even when you're shutting them closed. It affects me by making me feel that night time is added to the day and we'll have to deal with the countless cars and lights from the downtown area. For me, I like the lights blinking and shining but I don't think I'd like it as much to have it all day and all night.

I think it impacts the world by producing light pollution. See, it can mess with things around the Earth and make animals or even other related things think that it's daytime but it's not. Producing this much light all around the world affects the growth of certain things for people and animals all over. You might not think it but in time it can be a serious problem. Not only is it producing light pollution, it's producing all kinds of pollution to create that light that looks so pretty. Using generators, gas, coal, and other minerals or substances to power this much electricity. It doesn't look like this is headed in the right direction, but that may just be my opinion after all.

Blog Post #4 Twitter's Name and Logo...

Hey! Have you been on Twitch lately? Oh, I'm sorry I mean Smssy!

You don't know what I'm talking about? That's okay, those names came close to being the name of Twitter.
Weird right? I'm going to share with you this week about this particular thing.
It sounds really unusual doesn't it, Twitter being called other names. Not only other names but a totally different logo to go with it.

Twitter, with the blue bird. It's one of the most recognizable logos right? Imagine it almost wasn't like that at all. The article "Twitter Was Almost Called Smssy (and Almost Looked Awful, Too)" says "According to a post on Bilton's blog, the founders of Twitter bounced around plenty of ideas, and most—but not all—of the logos for were created by co-founder Biz Stone. There are some shockers in there. Stone played around with the big green speech bubble (not too bad), as well as a "retro Atari vibe" for a vowel less Twttr (which deserves to be filed in the trash)."
So in the article, it's basically saying how bad the names were and how distasteful the logos were going to be.

I think that it was a good thing that they were sticking with the name "Twitter" and the little bird logo they have to go with it. To me personally, it doesn't affect me seeing how I don't get on Twitter often, but I think I wouldn't like it as much anyway. I mean, to me at least Twitter seems like a pretty good name already and I'm glad they didn't go for something else. When I used to get on Twitter, I found it very nice and it didn't sound or look childish. I think if they went for a different name and logo, it wouldn't be as popular as it is today.

Changing the name of Twitter would have an impact because you wouldn't see celebrities talking about it all the time and there would be less and less drama. Why? Because it sounds childish saying you were having a fight on Twitch, or Smssy than it does on Twitter. Fighting period on the Internet is childish but with a name like those, people wouldn't want to get on it as much, then they wouldn't talk about other people as bad. The downside for Twitter would be it's popularity would take a downfall. That's all I really have to say for the name change of Twitter.

Cyber Bullying

This past week was really stressful on the amount of work we had to do. It's just one of those assignments that don't work well with the time given. That's okay because at least I have some new terms to share with you.

We were learning about cyber bullying. The terms that went under that catergory were:

Target- The intended victim
Offender- A person with malicious intent
Bystander- A witness who does nothing
Upstander- A person who stands up for & supports the intended victim
Escalate - To make more intense
De-Escalate- To make less intense

People all over the world have been bullied, face to face and online. Online people feel more free to do what they want and don't feel remorse on the things they say to someone. They don't feel as if it matters therefore they won't be punished. That's not the case, and they need to realize that what they has an impact on people.

Then there's the bystanders who watch but don't do anything to help. That makes you just as bad as the bully. If you feel you want to help out don't just watch things escalate. Be an upstander and stick up for the person being put down. Help things calm down and de-escalate.

Another thing that is currently happening is the pumkin that was sent into space. Have you heard about it? No, then let me tell you about it. The punkin named "Patches" was sent into space by a helium balloon. I guess they want to celebrate Halloween up there. "The pair used a 1600 g balloon filled with 3.5 m³ of helium. The giant balloon was attached to the platform that holds patches and a specially mounted camera." The article stated.

I think it affects me by the imagination to even think about getting that up there, it feels positive yet negative. Negative because they are putting things like that in space where it will never disentegrate. I think it can impact the world with motivation to do more things like that but maybe in a different way. Maybe it can set the world with a bit more imagination for everyone. I think it can also set a bad impact on everyone because it's still sending things into space knowing it won't ever deteriorate or disappear. It's just sitting there floating around even when the balloon pops, it's still there hanging around.

Risky Relationships

Well, hello there :D This week I'm going to have the topic on Risky Relationships Risk Relationships often happen online. So to help you keep safe on the Internet, I'll explain a couple of terms you ought to remember. For your own good that is. Online Predator- A common term used for someone who uses the Internet to start inappropriate relationships with kids or teens Stereotype- A popular belief about a group of people, based off assumptions that are often false Manipulate- Trying to influence someone to do something they might not other do otherwise, for their own benefit Risky- Potentially harmful to one's emotional and/or physical well-being Those will be helpful to keep in mind when talking to people you don't really know online. If you feel uncomfortable in a conversation with someone you should definitely leave. No matter who they are you shouldn't feel pressured into doing something you don't want to. When I say predator, your mind jumps to old men in their mom's basement with nastiness everywhere right? Wrong. Teens are likely to get things from other teens/young adults than from older people. Know it’s okay to feel embarrassed and/or confused, talk to a friend or a trusted adult. Another way to avoid things like that would be not to put yourself out there. Let people know you aren’t into that kind of thing. If they have a problem with that then you know they aren't someone good to talk to anymore. There are ways to build a positive relationship. You shouldn't use social media for arguments.Sending cute and nice messages can help build it up better. You should keep in mind not to over text. It can make you look a bit obsessed over the situation. There are definitely other risks you should watch out for. Like for instance what you share on the computer. Anything you post can be leaked to everyone and the things you can gain aren't always good, for example : Stalkers or a bad reputation. Of course there's many more but I'm sure you get the idea, right? These types of things can affect you by interfering with your personal and academic/professional life. If you try to get a good job and they see that you did a lot of bad things at a party by what you post on Face book, they can/will turn you down. You can walk around and people will talk behind your back saying and repeating what you did last Friday. Pictures everywhere and all over for everyone to see. It can definitely affect you emotionally. Being suppressed by the opinions other people are saying about you. It gets into your mind. These types of things are very dangerous, so I'm alerting you now of what you need to keep an eye out for. It could very well help you in the future or turn you away from a bad choice. That's all I have to say on this now. On a completely different subject, my week had went by very fast. Overall it wasn't that good but things will look up eventually. Everything will fix it self within time, right? I hope you had a good week though. Had you enjoyed yours? I found a site you can go on and have some fun making a photo college, it's called Picartia. I think it's very creative. It's positively nice to see so many things being put together. At the moment I don't find anything bad about it.

Google Deliveries

Hey! Alright, it's time to go for a current event this time around, so I hope you'll enjoy reading about that.

The title of the article I read was: Google Shopping Express expands old formula: Take orders, deliver stuff (mostly)

People who work at home sometimes don't always have the time to go out and buy groceries. Like the ones who have deadlines tomorrow and they are no where near done yet they need food. Online shopping? Would they deliver the same day? Yup, Google Shopping Express does. GSE Delivers to your house the same day you order it. Privacy? Check. They don't know what they are delivering to you because the packages are sealed shut. Privacy?

I think it's helpful.“I think Amazon prices are usually better, but sometimes Target or other stores have sales, and Google has all sale prices. I don't think I've ever found anything that Google has and Amazon doesn't.” Farhad Manjoo states. In certain ways, I think it could help out a lot of people who need it, and in the future more people should depend on it. In my case, when I get older I'll be working at home. When I have certain deadlines, I'll just depend on them for the delivery.

For everyone everywhere, I think not just for us. I think one day it'll become world wide. For it to impact it world wide will assist a lot of people. In my opinion, I think it will be very good for everyone.

Digital Literacy

Hey,

This week I'll tell you about what I learned on our terms : Publish, trustworthy, evaluate and criteria.
When you publish something, you're putting it out for the public to see. Not all things put on the internet are true though, in another term, trustworthy.

When it's trustworthy, that means you can use it and not worry if it's stolen, fake, lies, etc. It will be dependable and accurate.

When you look around for things like that, you have to evaluate it. If it doesn't stand out as you analyze it then you may not want to use it. Definitely when it doesn't stand up to the criteria needed. Criteria is moral standards on how you base your judgement.

Well, I'll tell you about the things this may relate to. When you publish something
and you forget to evaluate your information and it turns out it wasn't true,
you may not be able to change it easily.

Especially if it's in print. Like books.
If you make a mistake in books, it's extremly hard to try to change it back to how
you need it. Though if it's on the internet, it's way easier to do that sort of thing
there.

For example: Presentations, if you mess up on a presentation on the computer
it is easier to change a mistake before you may get judged on the mistake
you made. For you using Mixbook, or Prezi as we learned this week,
if you mess up you can fix it easy peasy.

Also, this week we learned about being a good digital citizen and the
ways to behave on the internet. Maybe you can take these in consideration
when you go onto sites and things like that.

So, next time you're online, you
can think about these things. Just look at the presentation below to follow
the ways of being a good online citizen.

Welcome back (if you've seen the prezi)
So some positives on this would be you can do things much easier without
having to worry about buying enough posters for your presentaion.
There is a negitive ornegetives to it, like sometimes it could fail
and you wouldn't be able to present for an impotant moment.

Next topic, learning about online ethics and being a good online citizen.
You kay wonder why you need to learn these things.

It's because
people on the internet sometimes tend to be rude or maybe they are acting
very obnoxious. They may not know these kinds of things they have to think about,
but you do. If more and more people learn about these things then mor people
wouldn't act they way they do.

It could creat a better online community for everyone. I'm not saying you
have to be all bowties and proper sayings, I'm just saying you should keep in mind
these guide lines so you won't be caught in the middle of ridiculous online
discussions.

It can affect you if your professors or someone that wants to hire you
but look at your facebook or blog posts and see you have a foul
mouth or you get in tons of fights, being disaggreeable.

 Then you may
have lucked out on the fact you couldv'e gotten that job,
or you couldv'e gotten into the school you've always wanted.
So to say, you should be careful.

Okay, on another subject, my week has been very nice.
My friends from the bus ended up not ditching me. Seeing as I still
ride the bus with them all in the mornings and afternoons. Now I
get dropped off with them too.

Other than that, it's been a really slow week.
It's felt fun , I was very happy, except
of the fact I had to wear my hair curly...
I hope I didn't jinx myself though.
Let's hope the next week will go just as well.

Lines Between Animation and Reality are Blurred

Hey, well, this time I'm going to talk about how a short Pixar movie is so realistic but it's counted as animation.

If you want to go to the article I'm going to talk about here is the link: Mashable
Okay, well, this movie they made is about two people who randomly meet eachother and they are basically wearing different color rain gear, blue and red, while everyone else is wearing black or a dark color. They fall in love, then are seperated. The drawings/ animation were so realistic it was like they were pictures.

I found it very pleasing to see, I liked it very much. There's people who try to do things like that and they do it half-hearted and it doesn't look nearly as good as this. It affects me by the way it's drawn. I'm facinated by it. I wonder why people don't try to draw these types of things as often anymore. It's a shame but hey, what can I do? People have to motivate themselves.

The way it impacts the world by how much insiration it gives off is phenomenal. People can look at it and say, "Wow, I wonder how they did that..." or  "Man, I want to draw like that." and motivate people to try harder. Instead of just not caring about what you draw, it could get you to care more about it. You could end up in great places if you try hard enough. Maybe if you took a look outside you can see what the world gives off and think like Unseld said in the 4th paragraph of the article, "So I wanted to show the rain as a beautiful thing."

Intro to Publication Copyright

           Hey,
I'm writing about a lot of school stuff, so read if you want.
So to start off, I'll explain some terms I've learned this week starting with
Creative Commons.

Creative Commons is where you can take the photo without having to obtain permission and just have to give credit.

I also learned about a certain interactive website called Schoology.
There, I can interact with my teachers and message them if needed.
Though it's a pain to look through every place to search for an assignment instead of just telling/messaging it to us. It's helpful to let me know, if I miss a day, what I've missed and to konw what I have to complete. Including videos, notes, projects, ect.

Plus I've learned about the copyright laws. Created Commons, Copyright, Fair Use, Commercial Purposes, and Public Domains. See, you have to do your research before you up and take something that isn't yours.
Next time you want to do something for your project or something you may want to look up these words just to be sure before you do anything. Just letting you know before hand.

If you end up taking it, without knowing how to handle it properly, you can end up in serious trouble.
Taking something that isn't yours is conserdered stealing. Except of when you follow certain rules. Though when you follow these rules, it won't be considered stealing as of then.

Following the rules may not be easy but it can sure as day help you to succeed. If you follow these things, you won't get arrested, fail on a paper or something worse. I hope I conveyed my point to you. That's all for that discussion.

Starting on a different topic, my week went by pretty fast. I know a lot of people look forward to Fridays, but I can assure you I'm not a big fan of them anymore. I think my week could have been better but what can I do right? Maybe next week will go alright. I'm hoping I'll someday talk to the friends I've made on the bus even though today's the last day with all of us together. I hope that maybe they wont ditch me after today....
